VALE PETER LNDERS
Dear Members
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed life member, and past Club President, Peter Linders.
Peter not only served as our President, but was instrumental in the formation of the Senior Football Club in 1983.
There are many things Chatswood Rangers has Peter to thank for, however, his vision of providing a pathway for junior footballers to become senior footballers and continue their career with Rangers, has allowed many local community members to experience the joys of the Beautiful Game and, more importantly, given them the opportunity to form lifelong friendships.
Condolences have been extended on behalf of the Club to Peter’s family and we are sure you will all join us in sending thoughts and prayers to the Linders Family in this time of mourning.
VALE PETER LINDERS!
Club Constitution Update
At the 2023 AGM a motion was passed to adopt a new Club Constitution, based on the model constitution of the Department of Fair Trading and modified to suit the needs of our Club and to bring us in line with the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW). This process was led by the 2023 Executive and supported by Tim Borham of Sajen Legal (sponsor and legal advisor for the Club).
The outgoing Constitution can be viewed here and the updated Constitution can be viewed here.
The motion to adopt the new constitution was accepted with the amendments that:
- it will come into effect 30 days from the date of the AGM (27/11/23) in order to give members time to clarify any items or provide further feedback;
- specific reference be made to Lane Cove Council in addition to Willoughby Council in clause 13(d); and
- the Club Colour Scheme be embedded as a new clause 47:
The Club colours are, subject to requirements of authorities to which the Club is bound to comply:- Royal Blue – Colour Hex #4169e1 aka RGB 65, 105, 225; and
- White – Colour Hex #FFFFFF aka RGB 255, 255, 255.
All questions and comments must be put in writing and addressed to the Executive Committee at president@chatswoodrangers.com.au. At the end of the 30-day period the Executive will review all feedback and determine whether any feedback would warrant the calling of an EGM.
The reasons presented at the AGM for the need for an updated Constitution included:
- the existing Constitution is out-of-date and may not meet all requirements under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW) (the “Act”);
- the hierarchy of the Executive Committee and its subcommittees is unclear;
- some rules about the operation of the Association are either unclear, conflicting, do not comply with the requirements of the Act or are missing entirely.
The new Constitution will also make management of the Club easier by allowing sub-committee roles to be adapted throughout the year rather than waiting for approval at an AGM (not the Executive roles) and allow for updates to be proposed and voted on outside an AGM where necessary.
The overall purpose of this process is to ensure the effective running of Chatswood Rangers Sports Club, to ensure the Committee is supported and able to carry out their duties, and that all members are well served.

20 Years a Ranger!
On Sunday 25th June, I had the absolute pleasure of attending an amazing Rangers event – the presentation of six “20 Years A Ranger” awards.
Cath Gyles, Sandy Chetham, Kylie Diamond, Marg Finch, Miriam Holder and Donna Patterson were all part of our first Rangers Womens team in 2003, and are part of our WO35-4 team today…CONGRATULATIONS to all six of these amazing women!
Not only was this event a celebration of the commitment these women have made to Chatswood Rangers, and the role they have played in leading the way for all girls and women in sport, but it was a great reminder of the role that team sport plays in building a community. The memories that were shared among the attendees, the discussions about what being part of the team and Club has meant to these women and their families, the pride taken in putting on a Rangers jacket…these are the things that make me most proud to be the President of this great club – and I’m not too proud to say I am fighting back some tears right now.
Recognition of long service at Chatswood Rangers is an ongoing topic of discussion for our committee, as we believe it is one of the main ways we can highlight the contributions players, coaches and managers make to the Rangers Family. We will share our plans for this later in the year.

Community Program
As you heard from our President Joe earlier this month, we have set up the Chatswood Rangers Community Program. Details of the program can be found here.
The Community Program supports the core objective of our Club as set in our constitution:
To contribute to the development of children and adults in the Willoughby City Council and surrounding municipalities by providing the opportunity for them to participate in sporting activities”.
We are excited about this endeavour and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our members and wider community.
Today, we are announcing two Community Program initiatives:
1. The Community Program has been set up to support current and future members who are in financial difficulty to play Rangers netball or Rangers football. Our Club believes that no one should be prevented from participating in sport due to financial reasons.
If you or someone you know requires support please reach out to admin@chatswoodrangers.com.au. We will then discuss your request and how we can best support you.
2. Save the Date – Rangers R U OK? Round – 24 & 25 July 2021
We are partnering with R U OK? to organise a Rangers R U OK? Round. The aim of the round is to support, inspire and empower our Rangers family (players, coaches, managers, referees and umpires) to meaningfully connect with those in their world, and lend support when they are struggling with life.
Watch this space for updates as the Rangers R U OK? Round plans come together.
We are looking for volunteer committee members. If you are interested in helping develop the Community Program please reach out to treasurer@chatswoodrangers.com.au.
We will continue to provide updates on the Community Program as it develops. Please contact us if you have any questions or comments.
Cheers,
Wes Smith
Treasurer and Community Program Chair
