Rangers RAP – 19/07/2024
July 19, 2024
School holidays are over and football and netball returns in full swing. Hoping that the better weather we have seen recently continues and the end of the season goes ahead without too much disruption.
I think it is a good time to remind ourselves of how much work goes on in the background at Rangers to make sure teams are looked after and everything runs smoothly, especially when there are ongoing disruptions to trainings and matches. We have a great team of volunteers on the Committee with our junior and senior secretaries leading the way. If you see Janine (Junior Netball), Nick (Junior Football), Christy (Senior Netball) or Rich (Senior Football) around the grounds, then please say thank you and show them your appreciation. We are always looking for more hands to help with the running of Rangers so feel free to reach out to the secretaries if you are able to lend a hand.
We would love to see some photos of your teams in action so are running a photo competition this week. Send your photos to your secretary or to me, and we will choose our favourite three photos for a prize.

Game Time!! Hopefully all teams have enough players for this weekend’s fixtures, as families return from holidays. If you need to borrow players, managers should use the contact list supplied.
School Holiday Camps
It was fantastic to see so many current and new players attending the holiday camps at Chatswood High School these holidays. Thank you to our training partners Vision Football and Coach Hansel and his team. It looked like a lot of fun and learning was had. Rangers plans to provide these holiday programs ongoing, so keep your eyes on the RAP and our Facebook pages for future dates. Places will be limited so early booking is advised to ensure you get a spot.
Thomson Park Upgrade Complete
Many of you will have seen the recent works at Thomson Park including a full replacement of the synthetic pitch, inclusion of a all-weather running track and improved seating and fencing. The work is now complete and the field opened to the public on Tuesday this week.
Chatswood Rangers is one of the main users of Thomson Park for football and as such have a standing allocation for training. For the remainder of this season, in an effort to support NSFA in getting through as many make-up matches as possible, we have agreed to prioritise the use of Thomson Park for matches ahead of training. As such, there are only very limited opportunities for teams to train there this season. The good news is that we will have access for programs in the off-season and for the 2025 football season.
Summer Football Training
The Club is in the process of finalising plans for a Summer Football Training Program from September to December. More details will be shared soon for players who are interested in continuing their training in the off-season and looking to further develop their football ability.
End of Season Presentation and Gala Day – Save the date
Chatswood Rangers will be holding the junior team presentations and a gala morning at Thompson Park on Saturday 7th September. Teams will have the opportunity to get together to celebrate the end of the season and also have a lot of fun. Jumping castle, football activities, face painting, BBQ and more!

junior netball
We hope you’re all enjoying the break over the school holidays. A reminder that training will start again on Wednesday 24th July 2024 for all netball teams from NSG through to senior netball.
Net Set Go Important Update – season extended by 1 week
Due to the unfortunate weather this year the Northern Suburbs Netball Association NSG Committee has extended the season by one week. This will give the NSG teams an extra week of games and pushes the NSG Gala Day back by 1 week.
Revised dates for the remainder of the NSG season are:
- Round 9 – 28 July
- Round 10 – 4 August
- Round 11 – 11 August
- Round 12 – 18 August
- Gala Day – 25 August
Junior & Senior Netball
As we enter the final leg of competition rounds after the school holidays, Chatswood Rangers netball teams are gearing up for a strong finish. Six of our 8 junior teams and 2 of our 5 senior teams are currently placed in the top 4 on the ladders for their divisions. Teams who place in the top 4 at the end of round 14 will enter the Finals Rounds.
There has been wonderful skill progression across all Chatswood Rangers teams throughout the season. Most importantly, teams are starting to gel and friendships are being formed on and off the courts. Well done to all of our coaches and players.

Grips Socks – WHY?
You might have seen the addition of grip socks to our online shop and wondered WHY?
In recent years, Grip Socks have become popular with football players around the world for a few main reasons.
- GRIP – obviously they are designed to increase grip between your foot and your boots. The rubber patterns on the socks prevents boots from slipping around as you move and change direction.
- STABILITY – Grip socks help stabilize the foot within the shoe, preventing it from sliding around. This added stability allows players to maintain balance and control, even in high-pressure situations.
- REDUCES BLISTERS – friction from running and changing direction, particularly on synthetic surfaces, can result in blisters. Grip socks act as a protective barrier, reducing the friction between the foot and the shoe. The grip features on the sole also help to keep the foot in place, minimizing rubbing and the formation of blisters.
You might have seen players cutting the foot out of their football socks to wear over their grip socks, we also sell cut-off socks so you don’t need to do that.
Grip socks are useful in other sports as well, such as netball, so don’t have to be used just when playing football. While not a requirement to play for Rangers, some players are deciding to use grip socks to get that extra edge on the field.
We also have a sale on Hoodies and Puffy Team Jackets while stock lasts. All uniform and off-field items can be purchased from the online store.

A message from our physiotherapy partners Movement 101 Chatswood.
Physiotherapy is a vital healthcare profession aimed at improving mobility, managing pain, and enhancing overall physical well-being. Despite its importance, several misconceptions surround physiotherapy that can hinder people from seeking help. Let’s debunk some of these myths.
Myth #1: Physiotherapy is only for high level athletes or people recovering from surgery.
Reality: While physiotherapy does help with these things, we also work with people of all ages and abilities. We can help those with chronic pain management to injury rehabilitation and even help people who are seeking to improve their overall physical health, strength and mobility.
Myth #2: Physiotherapy is just a fancy term for massage therapy.
Reality: Massage therapy can often be a component of your treatment plan but it is also much MUCH more than that! We complete a comprehensive assessment to then create a personalised treatment plan which usually includes an exercise program, education, and other kinds of manual therapy…including massage.
Myth #3: You need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist.
Reality: Physiotherapists are primary healthcare providers in their own right, capable of assessing and treating musculoskeletal and movement disorders independently. So nope! No referral needed!
Myth #4: Physiotherapy is painful and involves only exercises that hurt.
Reality: Some treatments may involve stretching or strengthening exercises that challenge your body, the goal is never to cause unnecessary pain. Exercises are designed to promote healing, improve function, and reduce pain in a safe and effective manner while tailoring them to your specific goals.
Myth #5: Physiotherapy is only for short-term relief, not long-term solutions.
Reality: Physiotherapy aims to provide both short-term relief and long-term solutions. While immediate pain relief and functional improvement may be initial goals, physiotherapists also focus on addressing underlying causes of conditions, preventing recurrence of injuries, and promoting overall health and wellness.
Let us know if there are any other myths you want debunked!
