Rangers RAP – 12/07/2024
July 12, 2024
Thank you to all the members who took part in our Trivia Night last Saturday. It was a lot of fun and a great chance to catch up with members from across the Club. Well done to the teams and individuals who won prizes and a HUGE THANKS to our generous sponsors for donating the prizes.
Trivia Night is the last major Club event for the season but you can look forward to some end of season presentations events being organised by the Secretaries so look out for details of those soon.
It has also been great to see Football Holiday Camps back up and running at Rangers these holidays. Vision Football’s camp this week was a great success and our own camp next week has sold out. We are very keen to continue to offer programs in addition to the regular team offerings so look out for more to come in the off-season.
Enjoy the rest of the holidays and a return to the courts and fields this week!

July School Holidays
We hope everyone is enjoying some much needed rest and relaxation during the school holidays. Some of you have taken part in the Vision Holiday Camps this week and it looks like they were very well received…and we are excited to welcome participants in our own Holiday Camp next week.
A reminder of training and matches during the holidays:
- There are no matches on the weekend of 12/13th July
- Normal training resumes Monday 14th July
- You will have matches on the weekend of 19/20th July
End of Season Gala Day – Save the date
Chatswood Rangers will be holding a gala morning at Thompson Park Oval on Saturday 7th September to celebrate the end of the season…more details to follow.
Kanga Cup
We had two teams who entered the Kanga Cup in Canberra this week – U10 and U13. All reports are that while the weather was cold…the football was HOT! Well done to both teams for their efforts in their competitions and for representing Chatswood Rangers so well, both on and off the field. It looks like they all had a great time.
Special mention to the U10 Sharks who made the Semi-Finals only to be beaten to the eventual winners Port United.
And thanks to the parents and coaches who organised the teams and made this happen!

junior netball
We hope you’re all enjoying the break over the school holidays. A reminder that training will start again on Wednesday 24th July 2024 for all netball teams from NSG through to senior netball.
Net Set Go Important Update – season extended by 1 week
Due to the unfortunate weather this year the Northern Suburbs Netball Association NSG Committee has extended the season by one week. This will give the NSG teams an extra week of games and pushes the NSG Gala Day back by 1 week.
Revised dates for the remainder of the NSG season are:
- Round 9 – 28 July
- Round 10 – 4 August
- Round 11 – 11 August
- Round 12 – 18 August
- Gala Day – 25 August
Junior & Senior Netball
As we enter the final leg of competition rounds after the school holidays, Chatswood Rangers netball teams are gearing up for a strong finish. Six of our 8 junior teams and 2 of our 5 senior teams are currently placed in the top 4 on the ladders for their divisions. Teams who place in the top 4 at the end of round 14 will enter the Finals Rounds.
There has been wonderful skill progression across all Chatswood Rangers teams throughout the season. Most importantly, teams are starting to gel and friendships are being formed on and off the courts. Well done to all of our coaches and players.

A message from Movement 101 Chatswood…
Ankle Sprains: Sometimes you can’t just walk it off
If you’re like me and have rolled your ankles before, it’s likely that your ankle was sore to walk on initially and then, after a week, the pain settled down. Problem solved. Or is it? Although you may have gotten back to walking around pain free day to day I can guarantee if you were put through your paces and challenged with some balance exercises, you’d feel a difference in your ankle stability. That is because our proprioceptive mechanisms in our foot and ankle have been compromised and need retraining. Without rehab, this seemingly dormant injury then places you at a much greater risk of re-spraining and developing a chronic ankle instability.
Netball has one of the highest incidence rates of ankle sprains worldwide. Most netball athletes report their initial ankle sprains occurred in childhood with recent studies showing that there has been an 84% increase in the number of ankle sprains in the 10-14 year age group over a 10 year period. Many of these athletes will then go on to develop a moderate to severe instability.
Ankle sprains typically result from poor landing mechanics or contact injuries during play. So what can we do about it?
We can’t control contact during a match but what we can improve on is our landing mechanics and reaction times with graded exercise. Similar to the FIFA 11 +, injury prevention programs such as ‘NetballSmart’ that was devised in New Zealand have been shown to reduce injuries, improve performance markers for sprinting, agility and jumping in clubs that implemented them.
Whilst ankle braces and taping can help prevent secondary ankle sprains, we cannot rely on these alone to stop recurrent ankle sprains. Together, let’s try to change the narrative that Netball = ankle sprains. With the joint effort from players, clubs and guidance from us physios, we can help you learn to trust your ankles again!
If you are suffering from an injury, feel free to book in a FREE triage consultation for our Physiotherapists to assess your injury.
