VALE PETER LNDERS
Dear Members
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed life member, and past Club President, Peter Linders.
Peter not only served as our President, but was instrumental in the formation of the Senior Football Club in 1983.
There are many things Chatswood Rangers has Peter to thank for, however, his vision of providing a pathway for junior footballers to become senior footballers and continue their career with Rangers, has allowed many local community members to experience the joys of the Beautiful Game and, more importantly, given them the opportunity to form lifelong friendships.
Condolences have been extended on behalf of the Club to Peter’s family and we are sure you will all join us in sending thoughts and prayers to the Linders Family in this time of mourning.
VALE PETER LINDERS!
2024 Development Program – final places
FINAL TRY OUTS SUNDAY 4th FEBRUARY
Following from our trials in November, and offers going out since then, we currently have a few places left in our Development Teams for 2024.
Players who were not offered a place in the first round of trials should have received a message explaining this and are still welcome to attend the upcoming trials if they wish to do so. All players will be treated as ‘new trialists’ as we understand players don’t always perform their best under pressure of a trial.
Please see the list of available places below and if you would like to trial for one of the places, complete the registration form. Additional information about our Development Program is included below.

Some of your questions may be answered below, but if not, feel free to contact us at footballdevelopment@chatswoodrangers.com.au
What are Chatswood Rangers Development Teams?
Development teams make a commitment to train twice per week rather than the usual once per week, are assigned a qualified coach for trainings and match day, play in either Division 1, 2 or 3 of their age group competition. The program is designed to cater for players wishing to play in the higher divisions and accelerate their football development through increased training and match play.
We aim to have up to two development teams per age group. The decision to run one or two teams will be made based on the depth of players attending the trials.
How much does it cost to play in a Development Team?
All players in the club pay a standard registration fee. The 2023 junior fees were $290 (inc GST) for U8-U11 and $330 (inc GST) for U12-U18. The 2024 fees have not yet been set as we are yet to receive the 2024 association fees, ground hire charges and other costs.
Development Team players pay an additional fee to cover the additional training ground hire and equipment costs, the cost of qualified coaching staff and other costs related to running the development program. The 2023 fees were $860 for U8 & U9, $885 for U10 & U11, $935 for U12, $960 for U13 & U14, $985 for U15 & U16. The 2024 fees will be determined once association fees, ground hire costs and other related costs are available to the Club.
How does my child get selected for a Development Team?
Development Team players from the 2023 season may be given an offer of retention to guarantee them a spot in the 2024 team. These offers are made based on coach and manager assessments throughout the season, considering player ability and performance, attitude and commitment to training and the team. Offers of retention must be accepted (including the receipt of the non-refundable holding deposit of $300) one week prior to the trials or they become void and those positions become open to trial. 2023 players who were not made a retention offer, are still welcome to trial and may well be selected if they perform well and show commitment to the program.
Trials are run in age groups coaches and our football committee making observations of players individual skills, athletic ability, strength, match play, game awareness and other football criteria. Players are scored based on their performance at the trials and then ranked. Places in the teams are then offered. Acceptance must be received via email along with with receipt of the non-refundable deposit of $300 within two weeks of the offer being made. Failure to accept an offer in this time frame renders the offer void and we will make an offer to the next player in the trial rankings.
What does the Development Program involve?
Development teams commence training up to 6 weeks ahead of the regular season (most other teams only commence 1 or 2 weeks ahead of the season).
Two trainings will be conducted each week with a qualified coach. Players will be given a training shirt as part of their fees. Footballs and other equipment are provided by the Club.
Some trial matches will be held in the lead up to the regular season.
Some teams will be eligible to play in some of the association Cups and other tournaments in addition to the regular weekly competition.
Club Constitution Update
At the 2023 AGM a motion was passed to adopt a new Club Constitution, based on the model constitution of the Department of Fair Trading and modified to suit the needs of our Club and to bring us in line with the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW). This process was led by the 2023 Executive and supported by Tim Borham of Sajen Legal (sponsor and legal advisor for the Club).
The outgoing Constitution can be viewed here and the updated Constitution can be viewed here.
The motion to adopt the new constitution was accepted with the amendments that:
- it will come into effect 30 days from the date of the AGM (27/11/23) in order to give members time to clarify any items or provide further feedback;
- specific reference be made to Lane Cove Council in addition to Willoughby Council in clause 13(d); and
- the Club Colour Scheme be embedded as a new clause 47:
The Club colours are, subject to requirements of authorities to which the Club is bound to comply:- Royal Blue – Colour Hex #4169e1 aka RGB 65, 105, 225; and
- White – Colour Hex #FFFFFF aka RGB 255, 255, 255.
All questions and comments must be put in writing and addressed to the Executive Committee at president@chatswoodrangers.com.au. At the end of the 30-day period the Executive will review all feedback and determine whether any feedback would warrant the calling of an EGM.
The reasons presented at the AGM for the need for an updated Constitution included:
- the existing Constitution is out-of-date and may not meet all requirements under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW) (the “Act”);
- the hierarchy of the Executive Committee and its subcommittees is unclear;
- some rules about the operation of the Association are either unclear, conflicting, do not comply with the requirements of the Act or are missing entirely.
The new Constitution will also make management of the Club easier by allowing sub-committee roles to be adapted throughout the year rather than waiting for approval at an AGM (not the Executive roles) and allow for updates to be proposed and voted on outside an AGM where necessary.
The overall purpose of this process is to ensure the effective running of Chatswood Rangers Sports Club, to ensure the Committee is supported and able to carry out their duties, and that all members are well served.
